A Measure of Success

Take a look at the fish in your local supermarket and you’ll likely find that tilapia is featured front and center in most display cases. Tilapia is now in the top ten seafoods consumed in the United States, and is featured in almost every fish recipe you find while browsing the web.

Like other large fish, they are a good source of protein and popular among artisanal and commercial fisheries. Most such fisheries were originally found in...

A Snapshot of the Tilapia Imports in the United States

Us Tilapia Imports

This interesting chart developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, gives us a snapshot of historical and current Tilapia Imports into the United States.

Interpretation of data is always conditional to the variables that experience and knowledge predispose, but even for the average Joe it is obvious that China is the biggest exporter of Tilapia, and our country’s biggest supplier.  This biggest of contenders for U.S. produced Tilapia has many struggles to overcome, and weaknesses that local farmers should exploit...
